EDUCATION & APPROACH

In my work I majorly help my clients navigate around mental health issues like, childhood trauma, bereavement, depression, anxiety, stress and relationship issues. I hold a Masters’ degree in Clinical Psychology and also a PG Diploma in Counseling from St. Xaviers, Mumbai. In my contemporary college education I was rigorously trained in modalities like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, however as I started to work as a therapist, I realized my alignment with the principles and modalities of healing trauma in the body.

As Dr Gabor Mate’ says “Most chronic illnesses are the body’s way of saying no when the person suppresses their no’s in order to fit in”. I am trained in trauma healing approaches like “Integral Somatic Psychotherapy”(ISP) and currently pursuing training for EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy), which is an “A” level treatment for Trauma, an evidence-based psychotherapy which has been recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a first-choice treatment for Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD; WHO, 2013)

I integrate an eclectic approach and take my learnings from various schools of thought in psychology like Gestalt and Internal Family Systems, as it’s crucial to understand that each individual in the chair of a client in front of me is unique.

Values

Being a Highly Sensitive Person(HSP) and an empath, it was a no-brainer for me to take up this path. However, as I entered the field I witnessed a lot of malpractice -  it motivated me to constantly keep a check on my peer-supervision. I also make it a point to keep a check on the goals that I formulate with my clients by being open to feedback in therapy. It helps me to show up for them and do better as a therapist with a happy success rate.

I resonate a lot with what Scott Peck says about Love - "that it is the human involvement, struggle and willingness of the therapist to nurture the client’s growth which makes psychotherapy to be effective”. I have come to experience that it is not the magical words or techniques which make a good therapist, but to be truly able to love and understand human emotions makes an effective therapist.

The idea behind “my breakthrough” was to make affordable and effective counseling available to people who are suffering in silence, it is about them being facilitated and bringing about an awareness within themselves to reach an attainable goal. Together, let’s breakthrough and give our best :)
